Emergency Hotline: 1.800.400.4271

24 hours a day / 7 days a week

What is an Emergency?

Gas leaks, an odor of gas, damaged lines, and carbon monoxide symptoms are all considered emergencies. If you have an emergency, call our emergency hotline at 1-800-400-4271 . Our personnel are ready to assist you 24/7. When in doubt, call us immediately.

If you smell gas, do not attempt to locate the leak. Instead, leave the house or building right away. Do not turn on or off any electrical switches, appliances, or lights, as an electrical charge could create a spark. When you are in a safe place, call the Peoples emergency hotline.

Stay Safe in Frigid Weather

When frigid weather strikes, it can sometimes cause issues with water pipes and even natural gas pipelines. With an arctic blast about to hit our region, we want to make sure our customers are prepared. Here are a couple of quick reminders to keep you and your family safe:

  1. From changing your furnace filter to checking for leaks in weather stripping around doors and windows, we put together 5 Tips to Save on Heat. There are many simple steps you can take to stay warm and save on energy.

  2. Check the batteries on your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector! If you don’t have a carbon monoxide detector, now is the time to pick one up. Even after taking precautions, accidents can occur. If you ever hear your detector sound its alarm or if you experience carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms, you should open your windows and doors, exit your home, and call 911. Here is some helpful information about Carbon Monoxide Safety.

  3. Frozen pipes can burst, causing extensive damage to plumbing, walls, ceilings, and floors. Here are some tips to prevent frozen pipes. And if you're looking to protect your pipelines even further, consider signing up for our Peoples Protection Programs.

  4. Your gas meter is relatively waether-proof, but you can help to ensure that it keeps working smoothly by keeping an eye on it when winter weather hits. You can remove snow and ice from your gas meter with a broom or brush, but NEVER kick or try to chip snow or ice away with a hard object. Also, you should never wrap or box in your meter with insulation, blankets, or plastic...gas meters require open air around them! You can get more winter gas meter safety tips here.

  5. If you’re a Peoples customer and your natural gas service is interrupted, please call our 24/7 emergency number right away at 1-800-400-4271. While addressing emergencies will always be our priority, we will respond as quickly as possible to any outage.

  6. We never want our customers to worry about how they’re going to keep their home warm on colder days. If you need help paying your heating bill, we’re here to help. Please call us at 1-800-400-WARM (9276) or visit our Help Me Pay page to learn more about your options.
