CONSTRUCTION PROCESS
Each pipeline project goes through multiple phases before completion. While construction may cause temporary disruptions, the result will be safer, more reliable infrastructure that benefits your community for years to come.
- Active Construction
Laying mainline: During the pipeline renewal construction process, we will first lay out and install any new mainline pipes, as needed. No gas is flowing through these lines at this point and service continues unaffected.
Temporary connection: Once the mainline is in the ground, we will make a temporary connection from the old line to the new line
Service change-over: We will schedule a time when we will disconnect the old line and change the service over to the new line. If we have to temporarily interrupt anyone’s gas service, we give them notice ahead of time. More information on service interruptions available in the FAQs found on this page.
Pressure and safety tests: We will conduct pressure and safety tests on every service line and house line, as required by law, prior to establishing gas service. - Restoration
Temporary: While you might see temporary restoration efforts after initial work, this allows residents to return to normal routines more quickly. Temporary fixes help us address weather or other conditions before completing a permanent restoration.
Permanent: Once we return to finish the job, you’ll see how these short-term inconveniences lead to lasting improvements. Our goal is to leave areas looking the same, or even better, than before we started.
Timelines can vary due to factors like weather, but rest assured, we’ll return as soon as possible to finish the work.

STREET PROJECTS-ACCESS & COMMUNICATION
We understand that working on busy streets may be disruptive to traffic and the daily lives of those nearby. We’re committed to ensuring customer and community satisfaction by making every effort to minimize disruptions.
Many homes and businesses are connected to our mainline through infrastructure beneath sidewalks or landscaped areas, making occasional disturbances unavoidable.
A Peoples inspector will remain onsite throughout construction to monitor the project and answer questions from residents.
Residents in the affected area will be notified before construction begins—you can expect to receive the following:
Letters: Before we being work in an area, we will notify the affected residences/ businesses of the future project and tell them what to expect. This typically happens via letters, phone calls and door hangers placed 3 days in advance.
Clear Markings: Before excavation, the Pennsylvania One Call (811) Program marks existing utilities on streets and sidewalks, ensuring we can work safely around current lines.
Signs: When necessary, No Parking signs will be posted in or around job sites. Please observe the dates and times to help keep yourself and our crews safe.
We strive to minimize restrictions to parking or travel access. Please speak with our on-site inspector or Contact Us (link to that page/form/ or email address) if you have questions or concerns.
