Many of our customers have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are committed to ensuring that all of our customers maintain their natural gas service. There are several assistance programs available to our customers. If you need help with your gas bill, we encourage you to use our ProgramFinder to see which programs you may be eligible for. What is an Emergency?

Gas leaks, an odor of gas, damaged lines, and carbon monoxide symptoms are all considered emergencies. If you have an emergency, call our emergency hotline at 1-800-400-4271 . Our personnel are ready to assist you 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. When in doubt, call us immediately. 

If you smell gas, do not attempt to locate the leak. Instead, leave the house or building right away. Do not turn on or off any electrical switches, appliances, or lights, as an electrical charge could create a spark. When you are in a safe place, call the Peoples emergency hotline.

Peoples Now Offering a Self-Serve Text Option


At Peoples, we’re always looking for ways to make our customers’ lives better. As more and more people use their phones for daily tasks, we know that it’s important to provide more mobile options for our customers. With that in mind, we’re rolling out our newest customer service solution — Peoples Self-Serve Text.

With the Peoples Self-Serve Text option, Peoples customers can text our customer service number at 1-800-764-0111 during business hours to do things like:

  • Make a payment
  • Check your account balance
  • Sign up for Budget Billing
  • Request a statement
  • Submit a meter reading

This Self-Serve Text option is completely automated, so you can take care of these tasks with a couple of quick text messages. But don’t worry! If you have a question that the Self-Serve Text option can’t answer, you’ll be directed right to one of our customer service representatives who are standing by to help.

To start your conversation, simply text “Hello” to 1-800-764-0111 between 7:00am-5:00pm on Monday-Friday. You’ll be asked to confirm your account number to get started. If the phone you’re using to text us is already connected to your account, you’ll be able to verfiy your account without using your account number.
