At Peoples, we are dedicated to preserving this beautiful region that our employees and customers call home. It's our responsibility to take action to help the environment. The healthier the environment, the healthier our communities.
Similarly, the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium holds conservation -- the careful preservation and protection of the environment and living things -- at the core of everything they do.
Both organizations believe that creating like-minded partnerships will have a lasting impact on the world, so we’re teaming up for the second year of Destination Conservation, a social media initiative that focuses on the animal and environmental conservation efforts in Pittsburgh and beyond.
Each month on Facebook, we’ll release a new video covering everything and anything from the Sea Turtle Second Chance Program to elephant, coral or giant armadillo conservation, as well as information about ongoing energy and technology projects at Peoples that help the environment in creative, responsible ways.
The Destination Conservation series brings the world right to your living room. In this time of COVID-19 when we are staying home to stay safe, it gives you a chance to see the good things people are doing around the corner and around the globe.
Conservation is not just for scientists and environmentally-conscious organizations. You can follow easy conservation tips to make life better for your community as well, like:
-
Taking public transportation, carpooling, walking, or biking when possible.
-
Telecommuting to work one or more days a week.
-
Waiting to run your washing machine, dryer or dishwasher until you have a full load.
-
Eliminating your use of disposable plates, cups, and utensils.
-
Buying locally produced goods when possible.
-
Turning off the water while shaving or brushing your teeth.
-
Turning off the lights when you leave a room.
-
Paying your bills online.
-
Caulking or weather-stripping your doors and windows.
-
Insulating your garage, attic, and/or basement.
