Emergency Hotline: 1.800.400.4271

24 hours a day / 7 days a week

What is an Emergency?

Gas leaks, an odor of gas, damaged lines, and carbon monoxide symptoms are all considered emergencies. If you have an emergency, call our emergency hotline at 1-800-400-4271 . Our personnel are ready to assist you 24/7. When in doubt, call us immediately.

If you smell gas, do not attempt to locate the leak. Instead, leave the house or building right away. Do not turn on or off any electrical switches, appliances, or lights, as an electrical charge could create a spark. When you are in a safe place, call the Peoples emergency hotline.

Get the Help You Need with ProgramFinder

At Peoples, we understand that sometimes it can be difficult to pay your gas bill or cover other expenses to help keep your home warm.

There are many programs, grants, and services available to you to make it more affordable to heat your home during colder months. We’re here to find the best solution to keep you safe and warm. By answering a few simple questions about your income and situation through ProgramFinder, you can find out which programs are right for you.

Whether you are having a hard time paying your gas bill, you need repairs to your gas lines or furnace, or your gas has been shut off or is in danger of being shut off, ProgramFinder can help you explore your options.

Visit our Help Me Pay page and click the “Find Out If I’m Eligible” button to begin your search.

Our ProgramFinder is completely anonymous. You’ll simply answer a couple of questions like:

  • Whether Peoples currently provides gas service in your home
  • Whether you rent or own your home
  • Which state you live in

You will also be asked how much money your household earns from all sources either monthly or annually — and we have an easy calculator to help! Sources of income include cash assistance, child support, disability, pension, rental income, salary, self-employment, SSI, unemployment, utility allowances, wages, workers compensation, and any other income.

Finally, you’ll have the option to include your name and email address, if you’d like to receive a copy of your results to hang on to, or to revisit at a later date.

The final screen will tell you if you are eligible for any of the assistance programs currently open in your state, give you an overview of each program, and provide links to learn more or to register for certain programs, when available.

Whether you qualify for additional aid programs or not, you’ll also be given a list of other Peoples services designed to make things easier for you, like budget billing, braille or large print billing, relay services for the hard of hearing, a third party notification option, and tips to reduce your energy usage.

If you’re unsure about any of the questions asked through ProgramFinder, or you need additional information, please reach out to us at 1-800-400-WARM (9276) or email us at peopleshelps@peoples-gas.com.
