A Winter Update on Our Customer Support Programs
We know that these chilly Pittsburgh winter months can be especially tough, which is why we are constantly working hard to help local families maintain their heating service. And every year, we partner with the Dollar Energy Fund in the hopes of doing just that. This year, we worked with Dollar Energy Fund to host several fundraisers that benefitted local families. At the Cool Down for Warmth—which featured an ice house in Market Square—our CEO Morgan O’Brien raised over $17,000. In total, the Cool Down for Warmth and the Warmathon radio/telethon raised $330,000—enough to assist 950 Pittsburgh individuals and families.
We also partnered with the Dollar Energy Fund to raise money and awareness through Jerseys for Warmth. For this fundraiser, 24 game-worn Pittsburgh Penguins jerseys were auctioned off online. We pledged to match each donation, and the event was a huge success. Together we raised approximately $72,000 for Dollar Energy Fund, which will benefit another 225 Pittsburgh families.
Do You Need Help?
In addition to the help available through Dollar Energy Fund, we also have many other support programs for our customers, such as the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP - West Virginia) and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP - Pennsylvania) grants. Both of these grants are designed to assist income-eligible customers to maintain their gas service. (These grant programs close soon, so be sure to apply now or call us for more information!)
If you’re a Peoples customers looking to save money on gas, another option is the Low Income Usage Reduction Program (LIURP). LIURP helps customers save money on energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. For instance, some measures that LIURP takes to “weatherize” homes are caulking or adding insulation.
Another accessible resource for customers in need is United Way’s 2-1-1 service. Calling, chatting, or texting 2-1-1 can easily connect you with the proper resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Whatever your situation, know that we are here to help. Because at Peoples helping the community isn’t just a job, it’s our opportunity to make a difference.
