LIHEAP


The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded assistance program used to help customers with their home heating needs. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services administers the grant program, providing assistance that does not need to be paid back. If you qualify for these grants, the funds can be applied directly to your Peoples account.

Pennsylvania DHS has announced that the opening of LIHEAP for the 2025-26 heating season will be delayed until at least December 3, 2025 due to the federal government shutdown. Peoples’ Customer Assistance Program remains available for qualifying customers who are struggling to pay their bills, as well as the Dollar Energy Fund.  

 

Homeowners or renters may be eligible to receive LIHEAP funds if your household income does not exceed the following guidelines:

LIHEAP CRISIS - PA

For customers in Pennsylvania, there is a CRISIS option under LIHEAP. Households experiencing a heating crisis may be eligible for additional benefits through LIHEAP.

Emergency situations include:

  • Broken heating equipment or leaking lines that need to be fixed or replaced

  • Lack of fuel

  • The main heating source or secondary heating source (used to operate the main heating source or used if the main heating source is not working) has been completely shut-off

  • Danger of being without fuel (less than a 15 day supply)

  • Danger of having utility service terminated (you've received a notice that service will be shut off within the next 60 days)
