Natural gas is less expensive and more environmentally friendly than other fuels—and a natural gas vehicle (NGV) can help you take advantage of these benefits.

Natural gas is clean-burning, domestically produced, and readily available. For all of these reasons, NGVs are well-suited for consumers, transportation fleets, and heavy-duty vehicles. Natural gas vehicles produce 22% less greenhouse gases than diesel vehicles, and 29% less than comparable gasoline vehicles.

Across North America, public and private fleet operators are moving to NGVs because they are proven and reliable. There are about 153,000 NGVs on U.S. roads today and more than 15.2 million worldwide. The life-cycle costs of an NGV are also lower than comparable vehicles, and it improves even more with new and extended Federal Tax Credits.

In addition, maintenance costs are equal to or less than gasoline or diesel vehicles. Compressed natural gas (CNG) is considerably cheaper than gasoline or diesel, and it is now being sold by many commercial stations. This means that you'll save even more every time you visit the pump, without having to sacrifice gas mileage.

Some people might wonder about the safety of NGVs, since the technology is newer, but in fact natural gas is the safer choice. Natural gas is lighter than air and dissipates when released, and it has a limited range for combustion. On-board vehicle cylinders are much more durable than gasoline tanks and also meet strict Federal Motor Vehicle Safety standards.
