Eligible customers can receive a heating grant for winter bills

PITTSBURGH (November 2, 2026) – Applications open today for Pennsylvania's Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and Peoples Natural Gas is encouraging income-eligible customers to apply. The federally funded program provides grants ranging from $200 to $1,000 to pay heating bills, depending on household size, and income. The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) sends the grant directly to Peoples, where it is credited to the customer's account.

“As colder weather approaches, we want our customers to know that help with heating bills is available,” said Rita Black, Peoples Director of Community Assistance Programs. “Many people are surprised to learn they qualify, so we encourage customers to review the income guidelines and see if they’re eligible.”

Eligibility is based on household income, and both renters and homeowners can apply. Customers do not need to receive public assistance or have an overdue heating bill. Since funding is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, applying early is the best way to be considered for a grant. Customers with a heating emergency, such as broken equipment, or a shut-off notice, may also qualify for an additional crisis grant.
