Energy Assistance Programs Available for Peoples West Virginia Customers

customer worried about bill

Pittsburgh, PA (January 12, 2021)

Recognizing that many West Virginians are struggling financially due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Peoples is reminding its utility customers that help with winter bills is available through West Virginia’s Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) and Dollar Energy Fund (DEF).

“LIEAP is a government grant applied directly to help pay your Peoples heating bill.  LIEAP is not a loan,” said Rita Black, Director of Customer Relations for Peoples.  West Virginia LIEAP is opening for applications on Monday, January 11th and will remain open until Friday, January 29th.  Customers should apply as soon as possible because funds are limited.  This year, the maximum grant is $1,000 per household based on 60% State Median Income.

Dollar Energy Fund (DEF) is another energy assistance program available for Peoples’ West Virginia customers. DEF provides grants to customers with limited incomes who make a good faith payment towards their bills.  DEF is based on 200% Federal Poverty Level and provides grants of up to $500.
