What is an Emergency?

Gas leaks, an odor of gas, damaged lines, and carbon monoxide symptoms are all considered emergencies. If you have an emergency, call our emergency hotline at 1-800-400-4271 . Our personnel are ready to assist you 24/7. When in doubt, call us immediately.

If you smell gas, do not attempt to locate the leak. Instead, leave the house or building right away. Do not turn on or off any electrical switches, appliances, or lights, as an electrical charge could create a spark. When you are in a safe place, call the Peoples emergency hotline.

March 2, 2026 -- Peoples crews are working to restore service for approximately 100 customers in Duquesne after an interruption occurred during a pipeline replacement project on Monday, March 2. As of 8 p.m., Peoples technicians have begun going door to door to restore service. In order to restore service and relight appliances, customers must be home so crews can perform a safety check. Technicians will carry ID and travel in company vehicles. If you are not home, our technicians will leave a door hanger with contact information to schedule a visit through our Customer Service Center, which can be contacted at 1-800-764-0111.

We remind customers that if they believe they smell gas or experience any other gas emergency, leave the area immediately, then call Peoples’ 24-hour hotline at 1-800-400-4271.
