COVID-19 Updates

At Peoples, our goal is to maintain safe, reliable natural gas service for our customers. We are actively monitoring the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak globally and in the U.S. We are working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the local health authorities to continuously monitor the situation and evaluate our operational response plans.

As a utility company that provides critical public services, our focus is on ensuring the continued reliability and safety of our service to customers, as well as the health and safety of our employees.

Our preparedness efforts include providing ongoing guidance and resources to our employees to mitigate the spread of acute respiratory illness, lessen the potential impact of COVID-19 in our facilities and maintain business operations. At this time, we do not anticipate any disruptions or impact to our services as a result of the outbreak.

We will continue to provide any relevant updates as this situation evolves.

For non-emergencies, our customers can contact us at 1-800-764-0111 or contactus@peoples-gas.com. We will continue to share any updates with our customers here on our website and on social media.

What is an Emergency?

Gas leaks, an odor of gas, damaged lines, and carbon monoxide symptoms are all considered emergencies. If you have an emergency, call our emergency hotline at 1-800-400-4271 . Our personnel are ready to assist you 24/7. When in doubt, call us immediately.

If you smell gas, do not attempt to locate the leak. Instead, leave the house or building right away. Do not turn on or off any electrical switches, appliances, or lights, as an electrical charge could create a spark. When you are in a safe place, call the Peoples emergency hotline.

Be a Helper from Home

How Peoples Employees Celebrated National Volunteer Week

  • Our employee Donna sewed cloth masks.
  • Our employee Barb made a sign to hang in her window, thanking essential workers.
  • Jennifer, wife of our employee John, also made cloth masks for essential workers.
  • Our employee Anne made soup for essential workers.

Now more than ever, it is important to give back to our communities to build hope and help our neighbors. That’s why we were excited to launch our #BeAHelper volunteer campaign at Peoples, to encourage our employees to volunteer safely from home.

Last year, Peoples employees logged over 3,700 volunteer hours. During this COVID-19 outbreak, many of our employees’ favorite volunteer activities have been put on hold, such as repacking days at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and Wild Earth Day at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium. But in spite of current challenges, they were still eager to help others.

Our employees decided to celebrate National Volunteer Week by keeping up that good work from home. Our Volunteer Activities Committee launched their #BeAHelper campaign, and we shared a list of at-home volunteer opportunities with our employees. To inspire other people to join, we shared photos of these employee volunteer activities on social media.

We saw many wonderful examples of our employees giving back from the safety of their homes – from making soup for essential workers to creating cards for kids at Children’s Hospital, it was inspiring to see so many of our employees coming up with creative ways to volunteer from home.

One of our all-star employee volunteers, Mary, decided to #BeAHelper by donning gloves, taking her picker-stick, and cleaning up litter along local roads. "My dog Caesar goes down into the streams along the road and picks up cans and bottles for me," Mary says. "All this free time I have not traveling means extra volunteer time!"

Other employees, like Donna and Jennifer, put their sewing skills to use and made hundreds of cloth masks.

During these uncertain times, being unable to physically offer a helping hand has been challenging for our volunteers. But through our #BeAHelper campaign, we were reminded that our employees remain committed to helping others and making lives better.
